A seed that grew…In 1934, a pioneering food producer in Belgium planted a seed. The seed was an idea; what if all the goodness of soya, so valued in Asia for over 2,000 years, could be turned into something that anybody could enjoy, anytime – something as versatile as milk, for example. In time he passed this seed on to others, who thought it a very fine seed and determined to help it grow.
Which it did, firmly and strongly, fed and watered by their passion and imagination. By the 1970s the natural processes we use today to create all our products had been developed. In 1980, the seedling blossomed into Alpro the company, dedicated to spreading the word about soya because its founders now believed that to feed a growing world population, eating more plant based food was the only way forward. Not only that, but the whole process of producing it should be as natural, ethical and sustainable as possible.
…and grew, and grew



that original vision couldn’t be more in tune with current thinking, as millions people worldwide embrace a style of eating that feels good for them and they know is good for their planet.
Our leaves now spread wide over Europe. We have state-of-the-art factories in Belgium, the Netherlands, the UK and France, all working to our same high ethical standards.
We’ve grown in numbers; more than 800 people are employed directly by Alpro, and over 2,000 work for us through partnerships across Europe. Our range has flourished with new varieties constantly being added to satisfy our customers’ curiosity and demand for fresh plant based experiences: deliciously flavoured soya drinks; tempting desserts; plant based alternatives to yogurt, margarine and meat; and most recently hazelnut and almond drinks.
We’re still making sure that everyone can eat well and enjoy plant power, now and into the future.
It takes more than one plant to make a harvest, and more than one plan to make a strategy. Alpro’s success is supported by seven sturdy poles that enable us to grow more strongly, climb a little higher and see a little further than most.
Linked in spirit but each one an individual, Alpro® fits in with an everyday healthy, lifestyle and can be found on most supermarket shelves while 100% organic Provamel® products are sold through health stores and organic supermarkets.
