What are isoflavones?

Isoflavones occur naturally in soya beans. They are sometimes called phytoestrogens due to their structure's resemblance to that of the female hormone estrogen. Yet the way they function in the body is significantly different: isoflavones' functional level is a thousand times lower than that of estrogen.
