Make Everyday #EARTHDAY

Doing the laundry is something we all do (yawn!), it’s part of our everyday routine. And when we do, it’s so easy to just flip to an eco button. Well, we want to make every day an Earth Day, just like that. Simply by flipping a switch in our heads to that ‘more sustainable lifestyle’ setting. Some switches might be more obvious than others, but if we all make them a daily habit, a lot of small efforts will make a big impact.

How can we be against pizza day? Hey, I can think of a pizza to make every single day of the week. But without the Earth there wouldn’t even be pizza or donuts, or socks for that matter. So if anything we are all for the Earth, that creates and contains all the things we love. And that’s why we feel the Earth deserves just a bit more attention and care, every day of the year.

Our environmental impact assessment is a big one for us! It looks at how we tackle issues like air, climate, water, land, and biodiversity. All things close to our planet loving hearts. In 2021 we added 26 extra points to our score, giving us 49.1 out of a possible 135. So, we’re still a way off perfect, but we’re heading in the right direction. And our new Environment score put us into the top 5% of our company size group, worldwide. Whop, whoop! Here's how we picked up our points: Conserving resources: Our plant-based products are naturally lighter on the planet’s resources. Kerching! Add 11.3 points. Land and wildlife: we only use 100% Proterra certified, rainforest free, non-GMO soya. And good for us, an extra 8.6 points. Being clean: Our non-GMO policy and organic products mean fewer toxins and less pollution. Add another 8.1 points. Plus, we were rewarded for the Alpro Pledge, our promise to the planet to feed our future with plants. Some targets we’ve already reached. Some we’re still working on, like switching to 100% plant-based packs and achieving zero impact operations – that means zero carbon, water and waste. We don’t do things by halves!

We’re proud to be one BCorp of nearly 4,000 companies big and small, all over the world, all independently certified as being a force for good. Putting people and the planet right up there on their ‘to do’ list. Recognised as doing what they do in a more sustainable, ethical and environmentally friendly way, and prepared to share it openly and transparently. (You can check them all out on the B Corp website.) How do you get to be a B Corp? You need to get at least 80 points (out of a possible 200) on the score sheet set by independent NGO, B Lab. They look at governance (our overall mission and vision), how we treat workers, what we do for our customers, how we support communities and care for the environment. And it happens every three years, so that sure keeps us on our plant-based toes! We’re dead chuffed to have raised our 2018 score by more than 20 points in 2021, up to a whopping 106.3. And so happy that 49.11 of them were awarded for what we’re doing for the planet. Like our rainforest and GMO-free soya, our other locally sourced ingredients, using less water and more plant-based packaging. Making us officially one of their ‘Best for the World 2021’. Hurrah! Regenerati-what? Indeed, regenerative agriculture isn’t talked about nearly often enough. Basically, it means farming for the future. Remembering that the soil that is farmed today has to renew itself for tomorrow’s crops. Making sure that the biodiversity on and around the farm isn’t harmed by the agriculture.

That's why we go to the core, working with farmer cooperatives to built roadmaps on regenerative agriculture. When we have enough results made with some farmers, we aim to scale up to all farms in our supply chain.
