Why are plant-based products naturally lactose free?

0% lactose
100% lactose

Soya based alternatives to milk and other plant-based drinks are naturally lactose free

Alpro alternatives to milk, just like all our plant-based products are made from plants, which don't contain lactose, so naturally, our products are guaranteed to be 100% lactose free.

Milk contains the sugar 'lactose', which is removed to make milk lactose free

Dairy milk is treated with the enzyme lactase to reduce or break down the lactose. The enzyme is used to split lactose in galactose & glucose making the milk low in lactose/lactofree or by removing it through filtration and splitting the remaining lactose with lactase enzyme.

Alpro = plant based = naturally lactose free

The easy way to avoid lactose

Lactose, a sugar present in most milks (cow, goat, sheep) can cause digestive discomfort or or symptoms of lactose intolerance or sensitivity.

All types of cows milk and other milk from animal origin contain about 5g lactose per 100ml, so every typical 200ml glass of milk contains 10g.

Making dairy lactose free does not affect any other elements in the products such as the fat composition or the protein. Cows milk protein remains present, which is important to know for people who are allergic.

The good news is that not only soya alternatives to dairy but all plant-based ingredients i.e. almond, rice, oat and hazelnut, and all the Alpro food and drinks made from them, are naturally free from lactose.

Replacing dairy products with plant-based alternatives offers a way to avoid tummy discomfort or symptoms of lactose intolerance or sensitivity.
