What are soya drinks?
Soya drink is a plant-based drink made from soya beans and water. We make Alpro soya drink by soaking soya beans in water and grinding them to extract their delicious flavour. Then we heat and filter the liquid to give our soya drink its classic, smooth texture, which makes it ideal as a replacement for cow’s milk in both food and drink.
It’s vegan-friendly, lactose-free, and gluten-free – a versatile plant-based choice.
Many soya alternatives to milk, including Alpro Soya drink, are also fortified with extra nutrients like calcium, iodine, vitamin D2, B2 and vitamin B12, making them a perfect addition to a healthy, balanced diet.

Benefits of drinking soya drinks
People often ask whether soya drinks are healthy, and what the benefits of drinking them are. The good news is that there are plenty of advantages to soya drinks for your health. Let’s take a look.
Supported heart health
Studies have shown that soya protein can help reduce cholesterol levels and blood pressure, lowering the risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, and coronary heart disease1.
Alpro Soya drink is also naturally low in saturated fat, making it a great alternative to milk if you’re looking for ways to support your heart health2.
Plant-based protein
Protein is an essential macronutrient in any diet. When you eat protein, it’s broken down into ‘amino acids’, which your body uses for energy, growth, and organ function3. If you’re eating a plant-based diet, it’s really important to make sure you’re getting enough protein from sources other than meat, to keep your body healthy.
One of the advantages of soya drink is that it’s packed with plant-based protein; more so than any other alternative to milk. Alpro Soya drink contains 3.3g of protein per 100ml (which is similar to the protein content of dairy milk), so it’s ideal if you want to increase your protein intake on a plant-based diet.
Supporting bone health
Calcium is a micronutrient that plays many important roles in the body, including building strong, healthy bones4. People who eat and drink dairy products get most of the calcium they need from milk, cheese, and yogurt.
Many soya-based alternatives to milk, like Alpro Soya drink, are fortified with essential nutrients like calcium and vitamin D2 (which helps your body maintain the right levels of calcium5) to help keep your bones healthy even if you don’t eat or drink dairy.
Choosing a non-dairy alternative to milk that’s fortified with these nutrients is really important, especially if you’re following a plant-based diet.
How to add soya drink to your diet: recipe ideas
One of the many advantages of soya drink is just how versatile it is. Its smooth texture and delicate flavour make it perfect for a whole range of sweet and savoury baking and cooking, as well as great match for your morning cuppa.
Top tip:If you choose Alpro Soya drink to add to your tea, coffee, or any other hot drink, pour it slowly or warm it up a little first to help it keep its temptingly smooth texture. |
